What's Your Favorite Time of the Day?

What is your favorite time of the day? Mine has to be early in the morning (particularly a weekend) just after the coffee is done. The caffeine awakens my mind and I start to think about the possibilities of the day. The kids have been sleeping in til 7:00or 7:30 most days now, so I am getting a little quiet time in the mornings.

Now of course it is late and night, my mind is mush, and it feels like I have accomplished very little today. Of course I did finish reading "A Long Way Gone", re-allocate my 401k to dump some lousy performing funds, play with the kids, take a nap with Collin (this is the second weekend Collin has asked me to take a nap with him, and I love it), go out to dinner with the family, watch the last quarter of the NY-Green Bay football game, listen to some music, and find two new Podcasts (This American Life, and Comedy Central).

Maybe that's not bad for a quiet weekend.

Good Night.

A Long Way Gone

I started reading 'A Long Way Gone' by Ishmael Beah on my trip to Louisiana. I'm in the airport now waiting for my flight. It is the true life story of a 12 yr old boy who was separated from his family as they fled the rebels in Sierra Leone. He later was picked up by the rebels and forced to join and fight with them (I haven't gotten to this part yet). He eventually was rescued by UNICEF and now lives in NY.

This book really makes you appreciate all you have, and makes you wonder how you would handle a life like this. It helps put the daily problems we face back into perspective. It both makes you sad and gives you hope.

One of the things I would like to do in the future is travel more. I love fiction, day-dreaming, and sometimes I wonder what it would be like to start over and dedicate my life to helping people in other parts of the world. Then I come back down to reality and question how can I make a difference where I am now, with what I have.

Caught In the Act

One of my co-workers told me that she learned it was best not to watch boys play. This is what it looks like when you catch them in the act...
